Nice celebrates the French Presidency of the European Union with over 60 events

Since 1 January 2022 France has held the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union for 14 years.

Each Member State assumes the presidency for six months in rotation. From 1 January to 30 June 2022, it is France’s turn.

The French Presidency of the European Union (FPEU) is linked to the programme of the “trio” of presidencies. This system, which has existed since 2009, makes it possible to set long-term objectives and define the major themes to be dealt with over an 18-month period. After the Slovenian presidency, France is starting a new cycle and will work in trio with the Czech Republic in the second half of 2022 and Sweden in the first half of 2023.
The FPEU is in line with the European guidelines set by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron for a sovereign, united and democratic Europe.

France has identified three priorities for the EUFP 2022:

  • Recovery after the pandemic
  • Power
  • Belonging

The PFUE is a great opportunity for France to show its European commitment by advancing important issues such as youth mobility, social inequalities and defence.

Nearly 400 events are planned in France and within the EU to mark the Presidency.

For the occasion, the City of Nice has come up with a specific programme to celebrate the French Presidency of the European Union. More than 60 events are planned between January and June. The Europe Direct Centre will be the direct relay and will publish information on all these events as they happen, so stay tuned!
